ABOUT US

The Hui began in 1953 as Hui Mea Hana, a group of people working with their hands. Our mission is to encourage and promote excellence in hand weaving by bringing together weavers, spinners, dyers, fiber artists, and educators who share the joy and passion of the fiber arts.

Education Position Open

The Hui is seeking a volunteer to plan and coordinate its outreach activities. These activities include weaving, spinning, felting and other fiber arts, which are showcased at Chinese New Year events, Hawaii State Art Museum, Art Academy Family Days, and other community events. If you enjoy organizing activities in a fun and creative environment and are interested, please to contact Norma Wilson.

OUTREACH

The Hui provides demonstrations throughout the year for schools and community groups. Recent venues included:

Honolulu Academy of Arts
Hawaii State Art Museum
Blaisdell Convention Center’s Splendor of China
Chinese New Year activities
Waldorf School’s Arts and Crafts Fair
Kapiolani Community College Farmers’ Market

ANNUAL SALE

Each year the Hui hosts a sale of hand woven items. Proceeds from the sale allow us to bring nationally known fiber artists to educate our members and the public on a variety of fiber arts topics and techniques. Check website for update on next sale date.
