May 7-31, 2009   Hawaii Handweavers' Exhibition

Location:  Art Center at Linekona :  "The 3R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"
Given the recent economic downturn, this year's theme was all about taking
what's old and making it new. For example, weaving a rag rug from old
jeans and aloha shirts or cutting up and weaving kimono fabrics or a variety of threads as in Saori Weaving. Some part of the piece must be handwoven/interlaced.  Juror was Selina Tarantino, CEO of Re-Use Hawaii

January 9 - 11, 2009 Tablet Weaving and More with Inge Dam

The workshop introduced students to various inlay techniques, such as brocading, boutonn, twill inlay, Minor’s inlay, dukagang, and glit (Icelandic inlay). Inlay on plain weave and twill weave ground structures were
also explored.

Students learned how to make a tablet warp and how to arrange it beside the fabric warp so the border and the fabric can be woven together using one shuttle.
