Suitable for Framing: An Exhibition of Fiber Arts

Hawaiʻi Handweavers' Hui Juried Exhibition

January 6 - July 10, 2020

Pauahi Tower Mezzanine Gallery, Honolulu, Hawaiʻi

Juror's Statement

Textiles have an ability to connect with so many audiences and viewers because of the familiarity textiles provide. From body adornment to home embellishments, from ceremonial, religious and festival applications, fibers take center stage in so many aspects of our lives. This challenge to frame, both figuratively and literally, provides a new context and opportunity to showcase how fibers are presented. How will this affect how we perceive these works? Will it alter the artistic integrity, techniques, narratives, craftsmanship, or will it accentuate boundaries - physically, politically, culturally, emotionally? Looking forward to the creativity this will provide, both for the artist and the community as well.
